There’s a no better or more trusted place, then KSMQ
It’s a wonderful big world out there. And there’s no better or more trusted place for kids to discover it than with KSMQ and PBS Kids.

As your regional PBS station, we continually look for ways we can serve our viewers, like you, more effectively.
We expand and reinforce our quality programming for children with our Educational Outreach initiatives and services. Your friends, family and others individuals in your community may not be aware that KSMQ expands far beyond the television set in their homes. Did you know that we provide workshops on a variety of topics.
Are you a parent or childcare provider trying to find balance between television viewing and other activities? Be sure to check out our Why KSMQ & PBS? web page—which features commonly asked questions about television viewing for children. We’re certain you’ll agree that KSMQ is a safe-haven for children, but we encourage you to view our Tips for Selecting Quality TV web page— which provides you with simple guidelines to help ensure that you’re selecting programs which are positive learning tools for children. We also offer Resources for Parents, a listing of regional resources for your convenience—from regional services to libraries, you’ll find it on this useful list.
We have an expansive selection of quality programs for children. From Arthur to WordGirl, KSMQ provides a variety of outstanding programs that bring fun and learning together! We often hear from our “older” viewers with grandchildren that they even enjoy our children’s programs. It certainly appears to be true that quality television transcends age demographics. KSMQ and PBS continue to be one of the most trusted entities and it shows each day with the programs we provide on-air and the services we offer off-air.
Thanks for making us part of your world and our regional communities!

Dinosaur Train is seen through the eyes of Buddy, a preschool-aged Tyrannosaurus Rex. Buddy and his adoptive family of Pteranodons go for adventures on theDinosaur Traint to meet all kinds of dinosaurs in different eras and learn fascinating new facts about these incredible creatures.
The new series embraces and celebrates the fascination that preschoolers have with both dinosaurs and trains while encouraging basic scientific thinking and skills as the audience learns about natural science, natural history and paleontology. Dinosaur Train joins other top-ranked PBS KIDS preschool series including The Jim Henson Company’s series SID THE SCIENCE KID, which premiered in fall 2008.
Dinosaur Train airs weekdays at 9:30am.

I proudly accepted a check from the Austin Noon Kiwanis Club in support of KSMQ’s Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest. “Children, Priority One” is the focus of the Austin Noon Kiwanis so this is a perfect collaboration. The Kiwanis Club’s contribution will underwrite the prizes and celebration for the contest entrants.
Making the check presentation are Kiwanis member Jean McDermott, Neveln Elementary Principal and Laura Tjomsland, President of Austin Noon Kiwanis.
Thanks Kiwanis! You rock!

1 commentNew Video Broadband Player on KSMQ

This month we launched the new PBS KIDS GO Broadband Player. This online video experience features more than 250 video clips and full episodes from more than a dozen PBS Kids programs, including more than 45 in Spanish.
“KSMQ’s online video presence rivals larger stations. KSMQ offers viewers more than a dozen locally produced programs, each of which is viewable online. The PBS KIDS GO Video Player is a logical continuation of the station’s goals,” said KSMQ’s Website Manager.
Kids can rate their favorite video clips, send clips to their friends, explore the site by show, and dive into themed channels (including Robots, Friends, and our personal favorite, “Gross!”). The video player also includes full-screen streaming (the “Big” button) and closed captioning.
Check out our new PBS KIDS GO Video Player today, or send someone you know the link… ksmq.org/kidsgo.
